“OPP Seize Record 46kg Fentanyl in Windsor Bust”

Ontario Provincial Police have announced their largest-ever seizure of fentanyl following a bust in Windsor. The authorities recovered 46 kilograms of fentanyl in late September after executing search warrants at various addresses and vehicles in the southwestern Ontario border city. According to police, the amount of fentanyl seized could produce around 460,000 street-level doses, posing a significant threat to public health.

Two individuals have been charged in connection with the case, one being a 25-year-old resident of Windsor and the other a 29-year-old from Vancouver. Both face multiple drug-related charges and are scheduled to appear in court on December 8 in Windsor.

The investigation, which commenced in the fall of 2024, targeted two key members of a drug trafficking network associated with criminal organizations. The operation involved collaboration between Ontario Provincial Police and Windsor police officers and units. Apart from the fentanyl, the raids also uncovered cocaine, heroin, firearms, cash, cellphones, jewelry, and other illicit substances, with an estimated total value of $6.5 million.

The authorities are continuing their probe into the origin of the seized fentanyl, emphasizing the national priority of combating illicit drug trafficking. Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Thomas Carrique highlighted the importance of working with partners to prevent the distribution of dangerous substances like fentanyl in communities.

Windsor’s deputy police chief, Jason Crowley, emphasized the significant impact of removing such a large quantity of fentanyl from the streets, emphasizing the role of strong partnerships at the local and provincial levels.

Community activist Lisa Valente, founder of the Windsor women’s addiction recovery group House of Hope, praised the fentanyl seizure as a positive development amid a community in crisis. She expressed hope that a potential shortage of drugs on the streets would encourage individuals to seek assistance for addiction issues, ultimately leading more people towards recovery and treatment options.
