Canadian forward Jonathan David has clinched the title of CONCACAF men’s player of the year for the 2024-25 season. This recognition comes in light of his outstanding performances both at the club level with Juventus and on the international stage, making him the second Canadian male player to achieve this honor after Alphonso Davies, a two-time recipient.
A standout player, David, aged 25, has previously been named Canada Soccer’s player of the year in 2019 and 2024. He was also a nominee for the CONCACAF award in the years 2021, 2022, and 2023-24. On the women’s side, Melchie Dumornay of Haiti, who plays for OL Lyonnes in France, secured the CONCACAF women’s player of the year award for the second consecutive year.
The selection process for these awards, covering the period from August 2024 to July 2025, involved votes from players and coaches of CONCACAF member associations, along with media representatives and fans. David holds the record for the most goals scored by a Canadian male player, with 37 goals in 67 appearances.
CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, who is also a FIFA vice-president and hails from Canada, extended his congratulations to Jonathan and Melchie, praising their exceptional performances during the season across various competitions.
Concerning his club achievements, David notably scored seven goals in the Champions League for Lille, setting a record for the most goals by a CONCACAF player in a single edition of the tournament in the 21st century. He also became Lille’s top scorer in European competitions before making a transfer to Juventus in July.
Since joining Juventus, David has had a slower start in terms of scoring, with one goal and one assist in 13 appearances. Other nominees in the men’s category included players from Mexico, the United States, and Costa Rica. Dumornay’s win in the women’s category places her alongside Alex Morgan as the only female players to have won the award more than once.
Additionally, Dumornay was recognized for her contributions to her French club side, where she played a pivotal role in securing the league title. The fans voted for Raul Jimenez’s free kick goal against Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals as the goal of the year, highlighting his remarkable performance during the tournament.
