“Calgary Man Pleads Guilty to Brutal Stabbing Murder”

Brett Davidson had just finished walking his dog in Calgary and was texting his new girlfriend when he encountered Cory Miklic, a violent criminal who brutally attacked him, stabbing him more than a dozen times.

On Tuesday, 44-year-old Miklic pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in front of Davidson’s family at the Court of King’s Bench. Davidson, a 39-year-old retired navy veteran who had recently moved to Calgary, was living in an Inglewood condo building on Ninth Avenue.

The attack occurred on August 27, 2022, in the building’s hallway when Miklic, with a history of 33 assault convictions, confronted Davidson and stabbed him at least 13 times with a kitchen knife. Prosecutor Katrina Sole Kahler stated that there was no apparent motive for Miklic’s actions.

During the assault, neighbors heard the commotion and called for help as Miklic continued the attack. Despite efforts to save him, Davidson succumbed to his injuries later that day at Foothills Medical Centre. Miklic was later apprehended at the condo building after leaving to watch a movie at a nearby theatre.

In court, Miklic was sentenced to life in prison with a parole ineligibility period of 13 years. The judge, Labrenz, expressed shock and disbelief at the senseless and incomprehensible nature of the crime. Davidson’s loved ones, including his new girlfriend, shared their grief and memories of his kind and loving nature.
