“Rock League to Keep Events in North America, Reveals Captains”

The Curling Group has made adjustments to its travel plans for the upcoming Rock League season, deciding to keep the events within North America instead of including Europe. The league, featuring six global franchises, will kick off in April with prominent captains like Rachel Homan and Brad Jacobs leading the Canadian teams.

Initially, The Curling Group had intended to host events in Europe, Canada, and the United States. However, due to venue availability challenges in Europe, the decision was made to focus exclusively on North America for the debut season. CEO Nic Sulsky emphasized the importance of logistical considerations in event planning.

Rock League details for the first two seasons, including team names, locations, dates, and rosters, are set to be revealed in mid-December. The league will introduce unique team dynamics with both men’s and women’s curlers, captained by individuals from various countries like Scotland, Switzerland, the United States, and Japan. This announcement will follow the Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials and precede the HearingLife Tour Challenge.

Sulsky highlighted the significant impact that Rock League will have on the curling community, emphasizing the importance of team dynamics, particularly in an Olympic year. The league aims to revolutionize the sport for both fans and athletes. Despite some challenges faced by the Grand Slam series, including fluctuating television ratings and attendance issues, The Curling Group remains committed to enhancing the fan experience and expanding the sport’s reach.

The recent GSOC Tahoe event saw limited American participation, with attention drawn to the enthusiastic local fan base. While facing competition from other sports events, the curling tournaments managed to maintain viewership, with upcoming events like the Players’ Championship in Steinbach, Man., marking the conclusion of the Grand Slam season.

Overall, The Curling Group’s focus on innovation and global expansion through Rock League signifies a significant shift in the curling landscape, promising an exciting future for the sport.
