Auger-Aliassime Advances to European Open Final

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has secured a spot in the final of the European Open after defeating Belgium’s Raphael Collignon 7-6 (2), 6-4 in the semifinals of the tennis competition. Auger-Aliassime showcased a strong performance, serving eight aces and committing just one double fault, while winning an impressive 78% of his first-serve points. He capitalized on one of his three break-point opportunities during the one-hour, 45-minute match. In contrast, Collignon managed five aces but struggled with four double faults and failed to create any break-point chances.

Auger-Aliassime, seeded second, is set to go head-to-head against third-seeded Jiri Lehecka of Czechia in the final scheduled for Sunday. Meanwhile, in another match, Canada’s Denis Shapovalov narrowly missed out on advancing to the ATP title match. The Richmond Hill, Ont., native was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Norway’s Casper Ruud in the semifinals of the Stockholm Open tennis tournament on Saturday. Shapovalov, seeded third, served six aces, made four double faults, and managed to break his opponent once out of five opportunities.

Ruud, the second seed in the tournament, secured a victory with two aces and two double faults, converting three out of six break-point chances. In the upcoming final, Ruud will face France’s Ugo Humbert, who advanced following a walkover against top-seeded Holger Rune of Denmark due to an injury sustained by Rune during the second set.
