“Canadian Duo Dabrowski and Mboko Secure Victory in Billie Jean King Cup”

Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski, hailing from Ottawa, and Victoria Mboko from Toronto joined forces to secure a victory against Denmark in the Group A playoffs of the Billie Jean King Cup in Monterrey, Mexico. Following a singles match earlier, Dabrowski and Mboko triumphed over Emma Kamper and Johanne Christine Svendsen of Denmark with a score of 6-2, 6-4 in 59 minutes, clinching the best-of-three showdown 2-1.

Impressively, the Canadian duo delivered a stellar performance with four aces and just one double fault, claiming 62 out of 100 points up for grabs. Their efficient play included three successful break point conversions. They are set to face Mexico in a crucial winner-takes-all match on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET, with the victor advancing to the 2026 qualifiers. Mexico secured a 2-1 victory over Denmark in their Group A playoff clash on Friday.

The upcoming Canada-Mexico encounter will be broadcast live on CBC Sports and CBC Gem. Mboko managed to level the Group A playoff match at 1-1 by defeating Christine Svendsen 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 24 minutes. Reflecting on her performance, Mboko emphasized her focus on taking it point by point and maintaining self-belief, especially when Canada was trailing 1-0.

In a display of dominance, Mboko recorded 11 aces and won an impressive 86% of her points on the first serve, while her opponent struggled with no aces, four double faults, and a lower first serve conversion rate of 63%. The Canadian team capitalized on five out of 12 break points, edging out the competition.

Meanwhile, Toronto’s Cadence Brace faced a challenging three-set match against Rebecca Munk Mortensen, ultimately losing in a closely contested battle. Brace initially secured the first set 6-3 but couldn’t maintain the lead, eventually succumbing in the next two sets 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) after a grueling three hours and 41 minutes on the court.

Brace’s performance included two aces and six double faults, while Munk Mortensen displayed resilience with four aces and eight double faults. Although both players showcased a strong performance, the Denmark player had a slight advantage in break points won, break points saved, and match points saved.
