“Chrysler Recalls Jeep Plug-In Hybrids Over Fire Risk”

Chrysler is issuing a recall for a large number of Jeep plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a defective battery that could malfunction and potentially cause a fire. The recall affects over 20,000 vehicles in Canada, 320,000 in the United States, and more than 30,000 in other global markets.

The automaker, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Stellantis, has identified 19 fires and one injury that may be linked to the battery issue following an internal investigation. The problematic batteries were produced by Samsung SDI America, located in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Affected vehicle models include certain Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles from 2020 to 2025 and some Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs from 2022 to 2026. Owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors and away from buildings until a solution is determined. Additionally, the company recommends refraining from charging the vehicles as the risk is lower when the battery is not in use.

Initial notification letters are set to be sent to vehicle owners by December 2, with further communications to follow once the final fix is available. The recall number is 68C, and concerned owners can reach out to Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. They can also verify information on Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database.

Remember to stay informed about this issue for your safety and the well-being of your vehicle.
