Mike O’Shea, a distinguished figure in the CFL, has been confirmed to continue his role as the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as announced by the team on Friday. With an impressive track record as a two-time CFL coach of the year and a six-time Grey Cup champion, O’Shea will be embarking on his 12th season leading the Bombers in 2026.
Under O’Shea’s guidance, Winnipeg has secured playoff berths for nine consecutive seasons and participated in five consecutive Grey Cups from 2019 to 2024, emerging victorious in the initial two appearances. The confirmation of O’Shea’s return follows his contract nearing expiration, coinciding with the Toronto Argonauts seeking a new head coach subsequent to Ryan Dinwiddie’s departure to assume the role of coach and general manager for the Ottawa Redblacks.
Originally from North Bay, Ontario, O’Shea previously showcased his skills as a linebacker for the Argonauts from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2001 to 2008. Transitioning into coaching, he served as Toronto’s special teams coordinator from 2010 to 2013 before taking the helm as the head coach of the Blue Bombers.
In addition to O’Shea’s contract extension, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have also confirmed the return of their general manager, Kyle Walters, for the upcoming season. This decision ensures continuity and stability within the team’s leadership as they strive for continued success on the field.
