“Rob Reiner’s Son Seeks Trust Funds for Legal Defense”

Nick Reiner, the son of Rob Reiner, has requested access to funds from a trust set up by his parents to aid in his legal defense against accusations of their murder. Civil lawyers representing the 32-year-old filed a petition in a Los Angeles County court, stating that trustees have unjustly withheld the funds he is entitled to use for his defense.

The petition emphasizes that Nick’s love for his parents is unwavering despite the tragic circumstances of their deaths. It asserts that his innocence in the crime is assumed, and he has the right to access his own lawful resources to mount a proper defense.

Rob Reiner, a renowned director, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were tragically killed in their Brentwood home in December 2025. Nick Reiner was subsequently arrested and has pleaded not guilty to the charges of murdering his parents.

Although Nick had initially hired prominent attorney Alan Jackson to represent him, Jackson later withdrew from the case due to undisclosed reasons. The petition reveals that Nick’s siblings, Jake and Romy Reiner, had agreed to cover Jackson’s fees but later retracted their support.

The filing explains that separate individual trusts were established for Nick Reiner and his siblings by his parents. The trust designated for Nick was to be disbursed in two parts, at the ages of 30 and 35. However, Nick claims he never received the funds due to him at 30, and the current trustee, lawyer Paul R. Kanin, has been unreasonably withholding the money, citing baseless concerns about Nick’s competence.

The petition outlines that the trust holds assets amounting to at least $1.5 million, but Kanin has not disclosed the exact value. Nick asserts that immediate access to the trust funds is essential for his defense and basic needs while in jail.

Legal proceedings in Nick’s murder case are ongoing, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for September. The possibility of the death penalty looms over the case, although the District Attorney has not yet confirmed whether it will be pursued.

Motives behind the crime remain undisclosed, with minimal information leaking to the public. Details of the autopsy have been kept confidential by court order, leaving many questions unanswered about the tragic events. Amidst the legal battles, family members and legal representatives continue to navigate the complexities of the case, striving for justice and clarity.
