“Saskatoon to Host 100th Brier in 2027”

Saskatoon is set to host the Brier in 2027, marking the 100th year of the men’s curling championship. The centennial festivities will commence on Feb. 26, 2027, at the SaskTel Centre, making it the seventh time Saskatoon has been chosen as the Brier host city. Notably, Saskatoon previously hosted the 75th Brier in 2004 and last welcomed the championship in 2012.

Curling Canada revealed the successful bid by Saskatoon at a local Montana’s BBQ & Bar, the title sponsor of the Brier. Ticket sales for the event may start as soon as March. CurlSask executive director, Steve Turner, highlighted the significance of celebrating the centennial in Saskatchewan, emphasizing the deep-rooted connection between curling and the province’s culture.

The province last hosted the national men’s curling championship in 2024 in Regina, which has jointly hosted the event 12 times with Saskatoon. Saskatchewan teams have clinched the title seven times, with the last win dating back to 1980 when a team from Saskatoon emerged victorious.

Mayor Cynthia Block expressed excitement about showcasing Saskatoon and the province’s rich curling history during the upcoming Brier. She emphasized the strong bond between individuals and their local rinks, underscoring the importance of curling in rural Saskatchewan communities.

The bid for hosting the Brier received support from Discover Saskatoon and Saskatoon Destination Marketing Hotels Inc. Notably, Discover Saskatoon secured funding of $350,000 to bolster its bid, with expectations of significant economic impact and hotel bookings for the city.

Following the successful bid, Discover Saskatoon is expected to provide detailed reports to the city council regarding participation numbers, economic benefits, and event budget specifics. The 2027 Brier winner will represent Canada at the 2027 World Men’s Curling Championship, with the upcoming 2026 Brier scheduled to take place in St. John’s, N.L., starting on Feb. 27.
