Canadian tennis player Félix Auger-Aliassime has decided to withdraw from the Moselle Open this week due to a knee injury. This move is aimed at safeguarding his health, although it jeopardizes his chances of securing a spot in the prestigious ATP Finals. The 25-year-old athlete hailing from Montreal made the decision to skip the tournament in Metz, France, which is one of the two ATP 250 events taking place this week.
Auger-Aliassime’s withdrawal comes on the heels of an intense campaign at the Paris Masters, culminating in a tough loss to the world’s number one player, Jannik Sinner, in the final with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4) this past Sunday. Throughout the Paris Masters, he displayed remarkable resilience by coming back from a set down in the first three matches and engaging in five tiebreakers.
Following his performance in Paris, Auger-Aliassime climbed to the 8th spot in the ATP rankings, surpassing Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the race for the final singles berth in the ATP Finals commencing in Turin, Italy, this Sunday. Meanwhile, Musetti is currently competing in the Hellenic Championship in Athens this week and must secure a victory in the tournament to reclaim the ATP Finals berth from Auger-Aliassime.
With a record of 48 wins and 22 losses this year, including three titles, Auger-Aliassime has made a remarkable comeback to the top eight rankings for the first time since April 10, 2023.
