The Elk Valley RCMP received a report on Thursday morning regarding the man’s disappearance at Elk Valley Resources’ Elkview Operations in Sparwood, approximately 150 kilometers southwest of Calgary. Subsequently, search efforts by Elk Valley rescue teams, supported by the RCMP, led to the discovery of the man’s remains on Friday morning.
The deceased individual, identified as a contracted employee, was engaged in maintenance work at the mine, according to a statement from mine owner Glencore Canada. Mike Carrucan, CEO of Elk Valley Resources, expressed condolences to the man’s family, friends, and coworkers, acknowledging the challenging circumstances faced by the Elkview Operations staff. The company is offering support services and counseling to its workforce during this difficult time.
